it's 4:59. thanks for joining us. i'm eric thomas. >> i'm kristen sze. right now the bay area's first ever expressway lane is opening up to drivers. that means solo drivers can pay for the privilege of using what would otherwise be a carpool lang. jenelle wang is live over 680 in fremont. this has been in the works for a long, long time. >> yeah. and it's finally here. set to open in about 30 seconds from now officially. at 5 a.m. the bay area's first expressway lane. i'm along highway southbound 680. you can see the traffic going southbound right here. there will be three entry and three exit points. you're looking at one of the entry points here. washington boulevard exit. the new expressway lane replaces the carpool lane on southbound 680 between pleasanton and milpitas. a 14-mile stretch. it operates between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. monday through friday. carpoolers will be able to use the lane for free as well as motorcycles, transit buses and highway vehicles with valid stickers but solo drivers can use the lane with fair fas trak pass. only three entry and exit points and ille

the damage around it, the location of the fatalities, all of those things so the information will help us determine the cause of it but most of the work on that site has now been completed so we're shifting to sort of the next phase which includes looking at documents. we're getting a good flow of documents from pg&e. we've given them an extensive list of documents we want to see. we're getting a good flow of documents from them. we'll be starting to visit the sites that control -- the control and monitoring sites at the milpitas and martin end that control and monitor the flow of gas through the pipes. so we'll start that visit. we'll start the visits to the two valves. the valves have been tagged which means to preserve the evidence. we've asked that the valves not be moved until we have an opportunity to examine them in detail. so we'll start that aspect of the investigation. we'll be looking at the seismic records to see if there could have been some seismic activity that re-- related to the breach of the pipe. we've started to receive some of the tests for some of the pg&e employee,

more than 50 years ago. >>> few of us can imagine what the injured san bruno victims and their families are going through, but one bay area woman knows all too well. she was also badly burned when a piece of pg&e equipment exploded. her story of recovery is inspirational. you would never know by looking at lisa nash what happened to her five years ago. >> i had to learn how to walk again. i had to learn how to use my hands. >> if anyone understands what the san bruno victims are facing it's lisa nash. it was august 2005. she was walking to work in san francisco's financial district. there was an explosion in an underground pg&e vault. the force lifted a manhole cover rocked buildings blocks away and sent nash to st. francis memorial hospital which has a renowned burn unit. >> it was not just the burns. it was my lungs had been affected, my skin. i was vulnerable to all sorts of infection. >> she was heavily sedated for two weeks and there were skin grafts, something likely for the san bruno victims
